PLAGUES: Solo Show

20 June - 5 September 2026

“Something Old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”: Victorian rhyme to endorse the new Mutual Agreement. Well, that went well.

I had collected the large pumice stones ten years ago from Gyali. A month ago when I was in Nisyros, Gyali looked half its size. Grouch grouch, we ate it. The Horror… The Horror…, Kurtz’s last words in Heart of Darkness (and Brando’s in Apocalypse Now!).

I cut a sheet of lead with scissors into strips and wove them. Lead, like cardboard, belongs to the materials I like to call “elephants.” Soft and heavy, they collapse under their own weight. The elephant in the room. Vlassis.

Two years ago, in the same exact space, I had presented you with giant palm leaves made of corrugated cardboard. My new obsession is “vagia”, that is, crafts made with palm leaves or coconut leaves (depending on the latitude and longitude), or, in my case, strips of corrugated cardboard. A Bright New World of YouTube tutorials, hands and symbols to borrow from. Plagues. The herds will die and swarms of locusts will finish off what is left.

Once when I was in Australia, I had made the Dead Anthropologist’s blue backpack. Better Luck Next Time!
