Desire Moheb-Zandi Turkish, b. 1990

Textile artist Desire Moheb-Zandi (b. 1990, Berlin, Germany), currently based in Paris, is known for creating large-scale, sculptural tapestries infused with vibrant colors, energy, and passion. Her artistic practice draws inspiration from childhood memories in Turkey, particularly watching her grandmother weave on a loom.

Moheb-Zandi skillfully blends traditional techniques with modern motifs and media, transforming the loom into an analogue computer where her pattern serves as a code. The incorporation of diverse materials such as rubber tubing, acrylic dowels, and synthetic netting adds a contemporary twist to her work. This fusion of elements results in visually dynamic pieces that not only showcase formal innovation but also serve as a record of the artist's life and journeys.

Integrating personal history and cultural identity into her sculptural tapestries, her solo booth with Dio Horia Gallery at the prestigious Armory underscores her growing recognition in the art world. Her artistic journey includes solo exhibitions, such as 'A way to stay' at Fold Gallery, London, and 'Fields of Reflections' at superzoom, Paris, highlighting her unique style and technique. The artist's participation in group exhibitions, including 'Coexistence' at Istanbul Atatürk Cultural Centre and 'The Way We Fall' at Eigen+Art Lab, Berlin, showcased her work alongside other contemporary artists. Notable commissions, such as a large installation at Etam Haussmann flagship store in Paris and bright panels titled "A Fantasy Adventure" at Chanel’s Métiers d’Art headquarters, further demonstrate her impact on both the commercial and artistic realms.
