Ally Rosenberg (b. 1991, Manchester, UK) works with a sculptural language that explores the paradoxes of human cognition, drawing on his background in neuroscience, where he investigated the relationship between brain structure and the elusive notion of qualia—the ineffable “what-it’s-like” quality of consciousness. His practice often invokes the mythology of memory as an unreliable narrative framework for constructing a sense of self. Through slicing, casting, and modelling techniques, Rosenberg works with mediums that both reveal and mimic structural qualities, creating bodily forms that merge archetypal imagery with a heightened, tactile materiality. This interplay becomes a means of articulating the unresolved tensions and contradictions inherent to human experience.
His exhibitions and collections attest to a playful yet incisive presence within the art world, as he continues to push the boundaries of sculptural expression while engaging with themes rooted in both personal and collective memory.
Rosenberg’s solo exhibitions—such as Muscle Memory at Dio Horia Gallery and On Solid Ground at Bomb Factory Foundation, London—highlight his commitment to engaging his audience through thought-provoking, immersive installations. His inclusion in group exhibitions, including Clear History at Perrotin Paris and WINK WINK at The Whitaker Museum & Gallery, Rossendale, underscores his active engagement in the contemporary art scene. Recently, Rosenberg debuted his first public sculpture commission at the Royal Society of Sculptors and a solo booth at The Armory Show, New York.
