Dio Horia’s #the21project was conceived as a visual art translation of the name of the hosting bar-restaurant “The Twenty One” (which is situated within the Twenty One Art Hotel) and of the hotel’s logo: twenty one punctuation symbols formed in three lines of seven red square marks each. In the three main walls of the exhibition space, Greek artist Maria Efstathiou, American artist Todd James and polish artist Honza Zamojski present 21 drawings each. Τhen, each of these constellations is paired with another artwork created by New York based artists Greg Bogin, Nir Hod, Matthew Palladino and greek artist Olga Migliaressi-Phoca. By adopting and using elements of the visual identity of the hotel and the restaurant, #the21project touches on the issue of cultural appropriation in the 21st century: to what extent and under what circumstances is cultural appropriation not only inevitable, but also, potentially positive? The interplay between each single drawing and the various constellations as a collective body echoes the ideas of oneness and connectivity through a blur.
