A Beautiful Gaze is a durational performance that seeks to find the beauty within, by assigning the performing body with a task of observation, introspection and reaction. Following a performance score created specially for the exhibition Beautiful at the Parnassos Literary Society, the performer iterates sequences of semi-improvised movement that take their cues from the details of the works at the exhibition. The performer is wearing a mask inspired by the work of Chrysanthi Koumianaki, Notes for Someone who is 167cm and Wants to Observe and Concentrate (2019), and the way the artist humorously places the viewer into a position of observation that was made to her own body dimensions. Just as Koumianaki’s sculptures inscribe the body’s position in space, the score of A Beautiful Gaze explodes this principle across the gallery space to create synapses across time and bodies, by placing the performer in a condition of constantly looking for beauty.

Works in the exhibition by Spyros Aggelopoulos, Savvas Christodoulides, Georgia Fambris, Chrysanthi Koumianaki, Aristeidis Lappas, Iliodora Margellos, Maria Papadimitriou, Vasilis Papageorgiou, Poka - Yio, Cacao Rocks, Tassos Vrettos.
